As the Bishop of Albany, I want to say a clear and unnuanced statement of guilt on the part of the diocese in its handling of our predator priests and others within the diocese. It is a shameful chapter in our history and no monetary settlement such as the one reached today will erase the pain caused to survivors. On behalf of the Diocese of Albany, I apologize and promise to work diligently to prevent anything like this from occurring again. I will make myself and my staff available to you all going forward, including continuing to offer our counseling services and pastoral care.

This Lenten Season, our St. Edward's community will be gathering for the Stations of the Cross. On Friday afternoons, Stations start at 12:00pm with soup immediately to follow.

St. Edward the Confessor is seeking a friendly, organized Parish Secretary to assist in the daily operations of the parish office. This part-time position is 18 hours per week. Responsibilities include greeting and assisting parishioners and visitors, answering phones and emails, maintaining parish and sacramental records, scheduling Mass intentions and facility use, preparing correspondence, and providing general administrative support to the pastor and staff. Qualified candidates will have prior office experience, good computer skills preferably with Google Workspace, strong written and verbal communication, discretion with confidential information, and a warm, welcoming manner. A practicing Catholic in good standing is preferred and support for the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church is essential. Hourly rate: $18 to $22 per hour depending on experience. On March 12th, a large group of volunteers gathered to help fill donated purses with useful items. These were then distributed to homeless and abused women. THANK YOU for coming together and making this a huge success!! Together, we make a difference!!

Middle School & High School Youth are invited to join us on Wednesday, March 25th, from 6 - 8 pm in the social hall, for a special presentation on the Our Father (Lord's Prayer) by Professor Carl Nicpon from the University of Georgia. All youth in grades 6 - 12 are encouraged to attend. Any youth needing to make up an absence this year can do so by attending the presentation. Please come even if you do not need credit. This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about the prayer that the Lord Jesus taught us and for fellowship.

The Knights of Columbus recently spent some time at the Ronald McDonald House in Albany, preparing nourishing, homemade meals for 30-50 people who stay there. The Knights do this twice a year in an effort to help others who are struggling with health issues. In addition, the Knights made a $500 donation to the Ronald McDonald House. Great job, KoC!!

Shenendehowa Dollars for Scholars, a nonprofit foundation that supports academic success, is accepting applications for 2025 from high school seniors who reside in the Shen School District. To be eligible to apply for the scholarships, one must be a graduating high school student, a permanent resident of the Shen Central School District, and be planning to attend an accredited post-secondary institution for one, two, or four years of study. Students attending any high school; public, private, or home-schooled students are eligible for scholarships and encouraged to apply. The amounts of the scholarships vary from $500 to $1,500. Scholarships include two scholarships donated by the Knights of Columbus for the Roland Felano Memorial Scholarships-Fr. Robert C. Scott Council 11064. The deadline for applications is March 15th. Their mission is to “live in Eucharistic Love and draw others to do the same,” through free events on Eucharistic doctrine, devotion, and the Saints. Adoro Te is the name derived from the 13th-century hymn “Adoro Te Devote,” (I Devoutly Adore You,” attributed to St. Thomas Aquinas. Tuesday, February 10th at 6:30 pm, St. Edward’s Social Hall. All are welcome, and youth grades 9 and up are encouraged to attend.
