Welcome to St. Edward's
Alternative Learning Program
“On your part, you must make it your constant care to bring them up in the practice of your faith.” (Rite of Baptism for Children)
Parents are the primary teachers of our faith. We ask that you share your faith with your children, sharing both your spiritual and prayer lives with them. Families are encouraged to attend Mass weekly. Please pray with your children. When they enter Pre-K/Kindergarten children should be familiar with the Sign of the Cross and should be working on the Our Father, Hail Mary, and the Glory Be. All grade levels will practice these prayers during class. The Apostles’ Creed will be introduced in third grade.
Each child is unique and this is especially true for children with disabilities. There is no "one size fits all" lesson plan or approach. This program can be tailored to the individual. This may involve tutorial sessions, small group sessions, teen mentoring, etc.
We will be working with area professionals, Loyola Press, and parents to create a program designed to meet the needs of our children. There is still much to be done and our initial offering will require support form family and volunteers.
If you have a child with special needs and would like more information regarding this program please contact Peter Avvento. All inquiries will be handled with the utmost confidentiality.
