Welcome to St. Edward's 2nd Grade Faith Formation
Noreen Hayden, K - 5th Grade Coordinator
“On your part, you must make it your constant care to bring them up in the practice of your faith.” (Rite of Baptism for Children)
Parents are the primary teachers of our faith. We ask that you share your faith with your children, sharing both your spiritual and prayer lives with them. Families are encouraged to attend Mass weekly. Please pray with your children. When they enter Pre-K/Kindergarten children should be familiar with the Sign of the Cross and should be working on the Our Father, Hail Mary, and the Glory Be. All grade levels will practice these prayers during class. The Apostles’ Creed will be introduced in third grade.
Interested in Becoming a Catechist?
Catechists are very special volunteers who meet with our children to share their faith.
If you are interested in becoming a catechist please contact Noreen Hayden at (518) 371-7372 x233.
Outlines and materials are provided for each session.
Thank you for entrusting St. Edward's as we assist you in guiding your child throughout their faith journey. Our 2nd Grade program is a year of preparation. Our children prepare to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and celebrate their First Eucharist in May. The children learn about these Sacraments as well as God’s never-ending love for us.
Classes meet approximately twice per month. Each class includes prayer, stories, discussion, and song. Special events are held in Advent, Ash Wednesday, and Lent. Families are welcome to attend these events. We will also review the Liturgical Year, 10 Commandments, Sacraments, and prayers.
Our volunteer catechists invest their time, energy, and faith to prepare for each class. While attendance each week is strongly encouraged, we recognize that life can be complicated. If you cannot attend, please contact me prior to class.
Classes meet Wednesdays or Thursdays from 3:45 p.m. through 5:15 p.m.
