Emmanuel
Red and green Christmas colors still dot our doors.
Ash Wednesday's deep purple slowly moves across our lives.
Emmanuel seems hardly the prayer for now.
Is that not the call of Jesus on this day?
In Advent we sang hymns inviting Christ
As Lent begins he tugs our sweatered sleeve
And calls us to believe:
He is with us. He asks us:
Watch me, I'm here now to show you how
to focus on the reasons why
I came:
To Teach, To Forgive, To Save
As the Spirit leads me into the desert….
Come along with me to the
desert.
I am with you in your deserts:
When you try so hard and turmoil
goads your mind enticing you to seek forbidden
fruit.
Come along with me to the desert
While I pray and fast for forty days
Hungry of body, my soul will reject calls to
vanity
And relish the Word of my Father.
I am with you
when the power of the world towers
as a mountain in your path
Begging you to compromise the
Truth.
I am with you
when people use my Truth
to pull you from the shadow of my
Cross.
I am with you. I
am in you.
Prayer:
Lord, I place my day before you.
May I realize that you are ever with me…in me
Forgive my offenses
Dispel my guilt
Be merciful, O Lord, for I
have sinned
Refresh my mind and heart
In Joy of your Salvation
May I sing to proclaim your praise
To Honor your ever abiding Presence
With me------in me.
