Program Overview

In this grade the primary focus is on Hebrew Scriptures also referred to as the Old Testament.  The study of Hebrew Scriptures puts the students in touch with the roots of our Faith and our Jewish ancestry.  Our purpose is to help the students to know how deeply God cares for all people and interacts in our lives.   They should gain an appreciation for Jesus as a Jewish person and the fulfillment of Jewish Scripture.  The students will be participating in several events including celebration of a Seder Meal which is a sacred part of the Jewish celebration of Passover and visiting a Jewish Temple where the students will learn about Jewish customs and tradition.  As part of their faith journey, the students will be given a journal in which they will be noting their experiences through verse and picture which will culminate in a Faith Sharing celebration with their families.  The students will participate in projects both creative and service.  And new this year, some of the students will be interacting as mentors with the younger children in our first and second grades.  This is a transitional year for these students as they will be in our Youth Ministry program next year and so we want to prepare them for the responsibilities and challenges that they face as they take on a larger role in our Church Family.  We hope that you as their families will be there alongside them on this journey helping them to grow as members in faith.
